Some recent events
11 September 2014: The City of Port Phillip approved a proposal to be forwarded to the Planning Minister for an amendment to the Port Phillip Planning Scheme relating to Waterfront Place.
13-14 September 2014: The buildings at Waterfront Place were seriously damaged by fire, and will probably need to be demolished.
15 September 2014: The City of Port Phillip’s Municipal Building Surveyor issued an Emergency Order for minimal demolition of the damaged part of the building that represents a danger to the public, with the restriction that the concrete slab (foundation and floor) must remain. It is understood that an investigation concluded that the fire had been deliberately lit. The matter is understood to be with the Victorian Police Criminal Investigation Unit. The person (people) responsible has not yet been formally identified.
